Seven Year Pen

I love pens, good quality pens that last and last and feel good to write with. I have a couple of beautiful silver pens that I received as gifts years ago, when my two books were published. As one friend put it at the time:  "you can't be autographing books with a Bic pen, it's just not right" and I certainly agreed!!! LOL

I also like "fun" pens, as long as they write well and keep on writing for a long time. Well, in that category, I think I may have found a keeper: The Seven Year Pen.

I just got one of these this week so I certainly can't tell you if it's going to actually be writing in 7 years (supposedly at an average rate of 1.7-2 M. a day) due to it's large ink cartridge but it does write well, with a smooth medium point tip. Mine is the quill one above, in purple. As you can see, there is a color to match any outfit or mood!

According to the packaging, worldwide there are 100 MILLION pens discarded every year! Absolutely appalling waste in my opinion. The disposable pens without even the option to refill are certainly the worst offenders but any plastic pen that needs to be refilled again and again isn't the greatest option, is it? I'll be glad if this one provides me with even a few years of service, certainly a lot better than the usual pen. And if it does go the distance of 7 years, that will be even better.

The Seven Year Pen from seltzergoods.com is a greener option for an everyday item that most people purchase again and again. Check out their fun website for more great stationary products too.

And in the meantime, think about that next pen purchase(s) before you (or your whole office) are deciding what to buy. The Seven Year pen might be just what you are looking for.

This would also make a great gift (at $7.-10. depending on where you buy it) especially as an add-on with a journal or agenda. And a thoughtful gift too, that will hopefully be used for years to come. My favorite kind!

Overall rating for this product: Very good. 4 out of 5.

  1. This is a very good idea for a product. It is so wasteful throwing out so many pens, year after year. I want one too.

  2. It is a great idea if you can keep a pen that long without misplacing it.

  4. Hi Joe, I totally agree. I'm all for reduce and reuse as the best options. Pen choices are a great example of a small decision that can have a big long-term impact.

Hi Sandy, That's true. Maybe they could come up with a pen on a rope for these, I always like having those, not as easy to lose.

Hi Billy, Welcome and yes, a good pen can be a good instrument of inspiration. I don't like cheap pens for so many reasons.

    Happy Writing, G

  6. Hi Lorraine,

If I might suggest, Chapters-Indigo sell these pens, that's where I got mine. I'm sure you have one of those near you so that would be an easy way to buy one with cash.

    Hope this helps. G

  7. I bought one of these for myself as a Christmas gift in December 2011. I like the design and was intrigued by their claims of longevity. I was so intrigued that I waited until the New Year to use the pen, writing (with it) the date I started using it and tacking that up on my corkboard. The pen lasted from 1-3-12 to 4-13-12. I am now in the process of looking for pen refills.

  8. I too bought one wondering if it would really last that long, or an even bigger question...could I keep an eye on it for that Long?? I found myself temporarily insane and took the dare! I must now add, I write alot.... I am currently in nursing school and also adore writing checks...just kidding about that last part. But seriously I have had this same pen for a and a half now and it shows no signs of stopping!! I probably just really jinxed myself there, but we shall see. I do however love this pen, it writes beautifully
and the ink dries fast, this is critical for a south paw such as myself as I tend to drag said paw thru the fresh ink I've just scribbled!! Also I chose a snappy dapper snow white little number with a fancy mustach adorning it! Really, what's not to love???

    1. I'm a south-paw too, I can SO relate to your comment re: fast drying ink. Another thing I love about these pens. My first one is still going strong, as of today: Jan 22, 2015!! Like you said, what's not to love. Thanks for stopping in. :-)

  9. I have had 2 of these pens fall apart on me very quickly . Considering they retail for about $8, not worth the money.

  10. STUPID PEN. IT DIED IN 1 MONTH WHILE WRITING LESS THAN 1 SENTENCE A DAY. DON'T GET IT AND WASTE YOUR MONEY.

    1. I'm sorry you had a poor experience with this product. I've got 3 now and they all are working great, several years later. Have also given as gifts.

  11. Bought one, loved it while it lasted. But only lasted 6 months and now I cannot find ink replacements. Store I bought it in stopped selling them. Tried to purchase ink on line, but site says Out of Stock. Now I have a fun shell of a pen.

  12. I bought the same pen as you did, purple quill. I have had mine for 5 years now, and I finally ran out of ink for it. This pen was my hero through university it got me through thousands of papers, 3 journals, and through many art projects. However, the shipping for one new ink cartridge is WAY to expensive for the $2 value of the cartridge. Hoping that I can find one at the book store I bought this from!
